Life could be stressful, demanding, fast paced and ironic. Things that you hope will happen never take place while the ones you dread and fear fall on your lap without one looking for it. What to do then when your life is going downhill and things couldn’t get worse?
Post your misfortunes on the web! Seriously, post it on the web and let the world know how miserable you are. In order to be more specific, post them on www.fmylife.com.
This site, which motto is “My life sucks but I don’t give a F**k”, is the perfect outlet for one’s anger, frustration, shame, resentment and discomfort. It’s the safest way of doing all of the above. One doesn’t have to yell at the boss, significant other, family member, dog, cat, neighbor, fellow drivers, traffic light, or the decaying stock market to “let it all out”. With just a few strokes of one’s fingers on the keyboard the mind gets rid of the heavy burden without the risk of being fired, knocked out or becoming single.
This site is nothing out of the ordinary, aesthetically speaking. It’s just a page with pale, light blue background and several white boxes where people write their stories or anecdotes on. On the top right hand of the page there is a list of the different categories one could read about. They go from sex, love, money, kids, and work to miscellaneous. One interesting thing about this site is the fact that the short stories have to begin with “Today” and end with “FML”.
But, who’s behind this uncommon site? Well, it was originated in France. The original site’s inception (viedemerde.fr) is all down to Maxime Valette’s work, assisted by Guillaume Passaglia for web development and implementation of new functions, and by Julien Azarian for the day-to-day community management. A group of administrators are also in charge of reading and validating all the submitted anecdotes. Now, Didier Guedj and a new team are working on the development of the English-language version.
If a user would like to contribute he has to submit his own story by clicking on the “Submit your FML” link in the menu at the top of the page. To be published, the story will have to be approved by their team.
The publication process has two consecutive parts. First, the FML the person sent will be put through the auto moderation system, where other users will vote on whether they want to story to be published on the site. If the submission gathers enough votes, the moderating team will then decide whether the story is worthy of being on the site. In order to approve an FML it should seem fresh, well written, and like it did really happen.
The site is gaining popularity and even radio shows like “The Morning Show” in Power96 radio station, discuss and talk about it. The hosts, DJ Laz and Ivy, talked about this particular case where a guy went to a club and got really drunk. He woke up next morning at 7 a.m and had 42 missed calls. That day was his wedding day! Everybody at the station started laughing and they all yelled at the same time “F my life!!”
So if you are bored at work or at home and have nothing better to do type in www.fmylife.com and get ready to read about the most facetious and ludicrous stories of the whole entire net. Get ready to read stories like this, “Today, I was driving home from work when I saw a cop come up behind me. Nervous about my expired license, I kept checking in my rear view mirror. In turn since I wasn’t paying attention, I ran a stop sign. Needless to say the cop pulled me over and gave me 2 tickets. FML ” or like this one, “Today, I decided to snack on some M&M’s. I saw my dog sniffing something and realized one of my M&M’s had fallen on the floor. To prevent my dog from eating the chocolate, I hurriedly snatched the M&M off the ground and ate it. When I bit down, I realized it wasn’t an M&M. It was a dead beetle. FML” Think your life is a mess? Think twice.
